{"id":2848,"date":"2013-01-12T13:12:03","date_gmt":"2013-01-12T03:12:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/plate4eight.com\/?page_id=2848"},"modified":"2013-01-12T13:12:03","modified_gmt":"2013-01-12T03:12:03","slug":"strawberry-custard-flan","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/plate4eight.com\/?page_id=2848","title":{"rendered":"Strawberry Custard Flan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_0197-005.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2711\" title=\"Strawberry Custard Flan\" src=\"http:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_0197-005-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_0197-005-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_0197-005.jpg 359w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a>Serves: 10<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Base:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 Egg White<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 Cup Sugar<\/p>\n<p>3 Tbs (45g) Flora Light Margarine, melted<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 Cup Skim Milk<\/p>\n<p>1 1\/2 Cups Self-Raising Flour<\/p>\n<p>Cooking Spray<\/p>\n<p><strong>Custard:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 x 375ml Can Evaporated Light Milk<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Diabetic_Friendly.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-525\" title=\"Diabetic Friendly\" src=\"http:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Diabetic_Friendly.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a>3 Tbl Custard Powder<\/p>\n<p>3 Tbl Sugar<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strawberry Topping:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 Sachet Diet Strawberry Jelly (Cottees)<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 Cup Boiling Water<\/p>\n<p>3\/4 Cup Cold Water<\/p>\n<p>1 x 250g Punnet Fresh Strawberries<\/p>\n<p><strong>Directions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Preheat oven to 180C fan forced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To make Base: <\/strong>In a medium \u00a0sized mixing bowl beat egg white and sugar for 1 minute using an electric beater.<\/p>\n<p>Add margarine to milk, pour into egg mixture, combine.<\/p>\n<p>Add flour to bowl and fold together (don\u2019t overmix flour, as this will make the base tough).<\/p>\n<p>Coat a quiche dish with cooking spray, press base into dish using your hand (dip hand into flour so mixture doesn\u2019t stick).<\/p>\n<p>Press mixture out evenly over base and three quarters of the way up the sides of the dish.<\/p>\n<p>Bake 15 minutes, leave to cool.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To make Custard: <\/strong>Place all custard ingredients into a medium sized saucepan.<\/p>\n<p>Stir continuously using a whisk (don\u2019t have heat too high or milk will scorch).<\/p>\n<p>Once boiled, leave to cool slightly then pour over base.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To make Topping: <\/strong>Dissolve jelly crystals in a small bowl with boiling water then add cold water, stir well.<\/p>\n<p>Refrigerate mixture until jelly just starts to set (watch carefully as it takes anything from 3\/4 hour to 1 hour).<\/p>\n<p>Hull and wash strawberries.<\/p>\n<p>Cut in half and place decoratively over custard, forming a circle.<\/p>\n<p>Once jelly is almost set, spoon jelly over strawberries. \u00a0Be careful not to let it run over the edge of the dish.<\/p>\n<p>Refrigerate.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Notes: \u00a0You can substitute any fruit you like for the strawberries and change the colour of the jelly to match your fruit.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Nutritional Information:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Per Serve<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Fat: Total 3.1, Saturated 0.9g;
