{"id":3135,"date":"2013-04-10T12:08:25","date_gmt":"2013-04-10T02:08:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/plate4eight.com\/?page_id=3135"},"modified":"2013-04-10T12:08:25","modified_gmt":"2013-04-10T02:08:25","slug":"chocolate-malteser-cake","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/plate4eight.com\/?page_id=3135","title":{"rendered":"Chocolate Malteser Cake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(Adapted from Valerie Barrett\u2019s Cakes Galore and Nigella Lawson\u2019s Feast)<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/plate4eight.com\/?attachment_id=2864\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2864\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2864\" alt=\"Chocolate Malteser Cake 2\" src=\"http:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/DSC00431-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/DSC00431-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/DSC00431.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>For the Cake:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>225g Butter<\/p>\n<p>225g Castor Sugar<\/p>\n<p>80g Malted Milk Powder<\/p>\n<p>50g Cocoa Powder<\/p>\n<p>4 Eggs<\/p>\n<p>200g Self-Raising Flour<\/p>\n<p>4 Tbl Milk<\/p>\n<p><strong>For the Icing:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>250g Icing Sugar<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp Cocoa Powder<\/p>\n<p>45g Malted Milk Powder<\/p>\n<p>125g Softened Butter<\/p>\n<p>2 Tbl Boiling Water<\/p>\n<p>1 Packet Maltesers, halved<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Directions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>To make the Cake:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Preheat the oven to 180C.<\/p>\n<p>Grease and line two 20cm round cake tins.<\/p>\n<p>Cream the butter and sugar until blended.<\/p>\n<p>Add the malted milk powder, cocoa powder, eggs, flour and milk, and beat together until smooth and creamy.<\/p>\n<p>Divide the mixture evenly between the prepared tins, and bake for about 30mins, or until well risen and firm to the touch.<\/p>\n<p>Cool in the tin for a few minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To make the Icing:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Blend the boiling water, malted milk powder and cocoa powder together in a bowl, then set aside to cool.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate bowl, beat the butter and half of the powdered sugar together until creamy, then add the remaining powdered sugar and the cocoa mixture until well blended.<\/p>\n<p>Sandwich the two cakes together with half of the icing, then spread the remaining icing over the top.<\/p>\n<p>Decorate with Maltesers around the sides of the cake.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Notes: \u00a0There\u2019s a trick to halving those Maltesers, and NO!
