{"id":2706,"date":"2013-01-11T11:38:26","date_gmt":"2013-01-11T01:38:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/plate4eight.com\/?p=2706"},"modified":"2023-06-20T15:01:51","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T05:01:51","slug":"home-made-doughnuts-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/plate4eight.com\/?p=2706","title":{"rendered":"Home-made Doughnuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_0398.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2707\" title=\"Home-made Doughnuts\" src=\"http:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_0398.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_0398.jpg 480w, https:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_0398-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think anyone was more surprised than I was when these doughnuts turned out looking like they had just been bought from the doughnut shop. &nbsp;They just seemed ridiculously simple and easy to make. &nbsp;To be honest, I thought they were going to turn out flat as a pancake (not that my pancakes are flat you understand), but they puffed up beautifully and the kids enjoyed tossing them in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon. &nbsp;I think next time I will ice them in different colours and cover them in sprinkles as an extra-special holiday treat. &nbsp;I might even order them for breakfast on my birthday. &nbsp;I think Mr8 can handle it, and the kids can even help with cutting out the doughnuts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Home-made Doughnuts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2 Cups Plain Flour<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 Cup Sugar<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp Salt<\/p>\n<p>1 Tbl Baking Powder<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 tsp Cinnamon<\/p>\n<p>2 Tbl Softened Butter<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 Cup Milk<\/p>\n<p>1 Egg, Beaten<\/p>\n<p>Oil for Frying<\/p>\n<p>Optional: Cinnamon-Sugar Mixture, or Icing Sugar to dust<\/p>\n<p><strong>Directions:<\/strong><br \/>\nMix together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and cinnamon.<\/p>\n<p>Add butter.<\/p>\n<p>Then mix in egg and milk. &nbsp;You can use an electric mixer for this, but I did it by hand.<\/p>\n<p>While you are mixing, start heating your oil to 150C. &nbsp;I just drop a small piece of batter in, and if the oil sizzles and bubbles gather around your batter yet it doesn&#8217;t burn, it&#8217;s ready.<\/p>\n<p>Roll out on a floured surface until your dough is just under 1cm thick.<\/p>\n<p>Then take a large glass to cut out your doughnut shape, and take a small lid like a milk bottle lid to cut a hole in the centre of each doughnut, giving you a traditional doughnut shape.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_0392-001.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2828\" title=\"Doughnuts Frying\" src=\"http:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_0392-001-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_0392-001-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/plate4eight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_0392-001.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Prepare an area for your doughnuts to cool. &nbsp;I put down a couple of plastic cutting boards with paper towel on top so I wouldn&#8217;t end up with an oily bench to clean up.<br \/>\nDrop the doughnuts into the hot oil.<\/p>\n<p>Fry for about 1 minute on each side, or until they are golden brown.<\/p>\n<p>Place them on your paper towels to cool, then toss them in cinnamon-sugar\/icing sugar while they are still warm.<\/p>\n<p>You could also glaze them or cover them in your favourite icing and add sprinkles.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Notes: Don\u2019t forget to fry up your \u201choles\u201d too. They cook very quickly and taste great.
