Well, we had our first PW failure last week, the Fettuccine Alfredo was a complete failure with our family and we unanimously voted it out of our future meal plans. I didn’t think it was possible, we have tried at least half of PW’s recipes and absolutely loved every one of them…..until now. Oh well, we all have different tastes, and I guess we like our pasta less greasy and with a little more flavour. But I’m still a Huge PW Fan! and will probably have at least one of her recipes in each of my future menu plans.
On a brighter note, it’s My Birthday this week! On a more sombre note, we have 6 (Yes I said 6!) very sick kids. Croupe, headaches, sore throats, ear infections etc. have once again invaded our household, so birthday celebrations will probably have to be postponed until everyone recouperates. Not to worry, as long as everyone gets better soon and I can start getting some sleep. My menu will reflect my lack of time, but I will still be packing in lots of garlic and vegetables so my family can over-dose on their intake of vitamins. This is one mum who is definitely looking forward to Spring.
In the meantime, I thought I would boast about the Cinderella cake my 5 year old requested for her birthday last week. Everyone was home sick then too, so I had to whip this cake up in about 45 minutes, and while the blue isn’t the exact colour I wanted because I had to use regular food colouring because I couldn’t take a bunch of sick kids to the cake store to buy colouring gel, and Cinderella was too tall for the cake, so I had to grab a box, cover it with wrapping paper and make a cake stand so that her legs could go through to the bottom without anyone seeing them, I’m still pretty happy with the end result. And the birthday girl was delighted, which is the main thing. These doll cakes are great, the kids are super-impressed and they take no time to throw together. Once you have made one, you won’t hesitate to make another.
Hope your family is feeling healthier than mine.
